From Production to a Key Player in Sales Support – Eetu’s Story

At the age of 17, Eetu started his summer job at KATKO as a production worker. The first week was an exciting one for the young employee, who began with assembling plastic enclosures.

“There was a lot to learn and remember all at once, but help was always available when I asked,” Eetu recalls.

After high school, Eetu continued at KATKO as a permanent employee, first working in various stages of aluminium enclosure assembly and later, after completing his military service, in warehouse operations. He became familiar with receiving deliveries, unpacking, shelving, order picking, and shipping.

“I basically did everything that’s part of the warehouse work at KATKO.”

A New Direction Under the Same Roof

In the autumn of 2023, Eetu began his studies in electrical engineering at a university of applied sciences, specializing in automation technology. Alongside his studies and previous work experience, he became interested in trying out office work. In spring 2025, Eetu inquired about the possibility of continuing his summer job at KATKO – this time in a new kind of role.

The opportunity came quickly, and in early May, Eetu joined the commercial team in sales support. The new position was a bit intimidating at first, but it also brought a lot of motivation:

“It was great to try something completely new. Even though the sales environment was unfamiliar, I already knew the people and the products, which made the start much easier,” Eetu says.

Learning Leads Forward and Uncertainty Is Part of the Journey

While Eetu’s experience in production and warehouse tasks was helpful, sales support duties like customer service and order processing required a different skillset. Still, he has quickly adapted and learned a lot in a short period of time.

“There’s constantly new information coming in, so it’s normal to feel uncertain sometimes. That’s why it’s always smart to ask for help early on.”

“If I could give advice to another young person – or to myself – I’d say there’s no need to panic if you don’t remember everything right away,” Eetu emphasizes.

Looking Ahead

Eetu’s summer job in sales support continues, and his future remains open. This new role has boosted his confidence and interest in commercial work. At the same time, he’s looking ahead to a career in his own field:

“In the future, I’d like to try working in automation engineering as well. This is a great place to continue from!”

Eetu’s story encourages all summer workers to boldly seize new opportunities. Sometimes a new role can be found in surprising places – or surprisingly close – as long as you have the right attitude.
